A workshop on reviewing and updating the Essential Veterinary Supplies System, including SOPs, the drug formulary, costing, and annual budgeting for medicines, was held in Gelephu from February 10–14, 2025. The main focus was on revising the Essential Veterinary Drugs Program (EVDP) strategy, standard operating procedures, and the veterinary drug formulary to align with the latest antibiotic and treatment guidelines. The workshop also highlighted the need for an improved costing framework for accurate annual medicine budget estimates.
With representatives from all Dzongkhag veterinary hospitals and key central agencies in attendance, the workshop provided a platform to discuss challenges and potential improvements in managing essential veterinary supplies. The event concluded with the 14th National Veterinary Medicine Committee meeting, where technical issues related to veterinary supplies were reviewed and approved.
Participants included stakeholders from the Department of Livestock, National Center for Animal Health, National Veterinary Hospital, regional veterinary hospitals, national farms, Bhutan Food & Drug Authority, Ministry of Health, Nature Conservation Division, and the College of Natural Resources. The workshop was organized by the Drugs, Vaccines & Equipment Unit (DVEU) of the National Center for Animal Health (NCAH) in partnership with the Fleming Fund Project Management Unit.
